We welcome Professor Dr. Wilkesmann to the September meeting of the Society.
While the focus of KM has mainly been about the capturing and sharing of knowledge, how can we draw benefits from studying the unknown , sometimes referred to as  Ignorance Management. The session will have relevance to not
only those in the medical profession , but also those taking important decisions when they lack all the information they need.

The meeting will be held at our usual venue Conference Room 1, 22/F, United Centre 95 Queensway (Admiralty MTR Station)

The event is free for members of the HKKMS and HK$200 for non-members

Synopsis

In their daily work, physicians have to deal with incomplete decision-making. Mostly, they have no time or no resources to gather all relevant information before they make a diagnosis or administer a therapy. Inconsistent decisions made can lead to further suffering. In the worst case ignorance can cause death. From the management’s point of view, inconsistent decisions can lead to cost escalation, lengthier treatment periods, or legal actions.

Library Science and knowledge technologies: bringing together two great communities

We switch gears from the world of Artificial Intelligence and KM , to the convergence of Library Sciences and the Semantic web, and from a leading
researcher from the US to a European who founded what is now Europe’s
largest Conference on KM, attracting more than 500 participants.

The next meeting will be a joint HKKMS/KMRC event and will be held next
Thursday 18 August in our usual venue, Conference Room 1, 22/F, United
Centre 95 Queensway (Admiralty MTR Station).

We are delighted to be able to schedule a couple of hours of Professor
Tochtermann’s time on his brief visit to Hong Kong, and hope many of you
will be able to attend the meeting. Full details including registration

Progress of KM – Dave Snowden

The Society is very pleased to welcome back Dave Snowden from the UK to talk at the March monthly meeting of the Society.  The event will held in our usual location,  Conference Room 1, 22/F, United Centre, 95 Queensway (Admiralty MTR Station).

Dave will talk about the progress of KM since it became part of the Management agenda for organizations in the 1990s. He will highlight the various stages of thought leadership in KM and what has been achieved and what has been learned. Dave will conclude with his views on where KM is headed, with plenty of time for discussion with the participants.

Dave Snowden is the Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Cognitive Edge and has pioneered a science based approach to individual and collective decision making in organisations.  His article A Leaders Guide to Decision Making was the HBR cover article in November 2007 and won an Academy of Management award as the best practitioner paper in the Organisational Development Division of the Academy of Management that same year.
