ABSTRACT:<\/strong>
\nThe acceleration of knowledge management technology has been dramatic, yet has not kept pace with the explosion of data in the enterprise.<\/p>\n

The modern organization has access to far more relevant digital data, both\u00a0 internal and external, than its managers, employees, customers and partners can possibly utilize without technology beyond the scope of current practice. \u00a0Relational databases, statistical and data-mining software, document management systems and so forth are extremely useful, yet leave the vast majority of potentially actionable knowledge untouched — because all these software approaches share one key limitation: a lack of contextual understanding. \u00a0None of them really understands the information they process, so they miss data patterns and ways of organizing information that would be evident to a human mind, were any human mind able to ingest the vast quantity of information that can be fed into modern computer systems. The ultimate solution to this problem is clear: artificial intelligence, and not highly specialized “narrow AI” but Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) that can handle a variety of types of data and contexts with human-like understanding.<\/p>\n

Full-fledged AGI remains beyond our reach at present, but the AGI field is steadily advancing with a stream of research publications and conferences, and is beginning to yield technology with practical knowledge management applications.<\/p>\n

One among the many manifestations of AGI in the knowledge management are is the prediction of financial and economic time series. \u00a0This capability has a host of applications, including stock and futures trading, risk management, demand and supply prediction. \u00a0One of the strengths of AGI here is its capability to integrate a wide variety of data sources with understanding, including quantitative, relational and textual sources. \u00a0In this talk after some discussion of the general application of AGI to knowledge management, we will discuss some of our current work applying AGI technology to predict
\nequity prices on the Hong Kong stock market.<\/p>\n

BIO:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Ben Goertzel is CEO of AI software company Novamente LLC and bioinformatics company Biomind LLC; leader of the open-source OpenCog Artificial General Intelligence software project; Chairman of Humanity+; Chief Technology Officer of biopharma firm Genescient Corp.; Advisor to the Singularity University and Singularity Institute; Research Professor in the Fujian Key Lab for Brain-Like Intelligent Systems at Xiamen University,\u00a0 China; and general Chair of the Artificial General Intelligence conference series. \u00a0His research work encompasses artificial general intelligence, natural language processing, cognitive science, data mining, machine learning, computational finance, bioinformatics, virtual worlds and gaming and other areas, \u00a0He has published a dozen scientific books, nearly 90 technical papers, and numerous journalistic articles. \u00a0Before entering the software industry he served as a university faculty in several departments of mathematics, computer science and cognitive science, in the US, Australia and New Zealand.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
