Knowledge is viewed as the key resource needed to stay competitive and develop, consequently, firms, regardless of size, need to find ways to properly manage their knowledge in order to address this challenge. Thereby the firms\u00b4 knowledge management (KM) needs to take a holistic approach meaning that their KM activities should not be limited to knowledge creation and knowledge dissemination but should involve activities related to knowledge retention as well.<\/p>\n

In fact, knowledge retention combined with knowledge transfer can help organizations to reduce the danger of knowledge leakage. If organizations fail to address this challenge, their organizational productivity is particularly at risk in situations when critical staff is leaving which typically does not allow for an immediate replacement, to name just one example. Or even worse the organizations lose their capacity to act.<\/p>\n

The talk by Susanne Durst will address this challenge in more depth. The discussion will be conducted from the viewpoint of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).<\/p>\n

About Susanne<\/h3>\n

Susanne Durst is Senior Lecturer at the School of Business at University of Sk\u00f6vde (Sweden). Before joining academia, she worked in different positions with private enterprises of different industries. Her research interests include small business management, SME succession\/business transfers, knowledge management, intellectual capital (risk) management and corporate governance. Her work has been awarded with different awards, including the Transeo Academic Award in 2012. She received a PhD from University of Paris XI (France) and holds a Master in Finance from University of Sk\u00f6vde.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
